bad romantic comedies
Okay, I'll admit it. I'm a romantic at heart. I love a love story. I love the hope I find in the promise of a wonderful HEA (happily-ever-after). I also love to laugh. So put love and laughter together and I'm usually right there with you. I will also freely admit that I am somewhat easily entertained. I am not the world's toughest critic. Not by a long shot.
Entertainment Weekly has put together a list of 24 Bad Romantic Comedies. Kind of fun to look through these. I have enjoyed a few of the movies on the list. I may have only given them a three out of five stars on Netflix, just an "I liked it" and not an "I loved it," but I was still at least mildly entertained. But there are quite a few that I haven't seen because even the synopses let me know I wouldn't like them. Others that I have seen were truly BAD.
I thoroughly disagree, however, about Father Goose. Okay, it may be a bit corny, but I've seen it more than a dozen times through the years, thanks to cable/satellite and the classic movie channels, and I always smile over the silliness.
So fess up. Which one of these "bad" romantic comedies do you like? And do you have some "bad" ones that you would add to this list?
Ready. Set. Comment.

Okay, if we're fessing up, here are the ones I like:
Maid in Manhattan
Nine Months - I thought it was hilarious! Of course, I was pregnant at the time, that might have had something to do with it.
Fools Rush In
Father Goose - my sisters and I probably watched it 50 times growing up.
Two Weeks Notice - I see a pattern here. I really like Hugh Grant, although I know a lot of people who can't stand him.
Fun!

I've seen maybe half these movies. (I haven't seen Father Goose, but now I will!)
Of the ones I've seen, the only one I'd consider seeing again is How To Lose A Guy.
It's weird how much I love Hugh Grant and John Cusack, but how often I don't love the movies they're in....

Carrie, I think I've seen all the movies you mentioned and didn't hate any of them. And now that I think of it, I've probably seen Father Goose way more than the dozen times I mentioned. It is probably more like three dozen times.
Katy, we are a lot alike. I love Hugh Grant and John Cusack, but they've made their share of duds, haven't they?

Like Katy, I've never seen Father Goose, and the only one of those movies that I really liked was How To Lose A Guy.
But I am not a fan of Hugh Grant and John Cusack as actors, so I guess it makes sense that I don't enjoy their movies.
I enjoyed reading this link, Robin. Thanks!

Robin,
I totally agree with most of them. (really bad movies) I did enjoy Alex and Emma and How to Lose a Guy. Both with Kate Hudson so I think it is largely because of her. I think she is always fun to watch. I also always loved Father Goose. Maybe cause I first watched it as a young girl. But then, how can Cary Grant be bad?

I've seen several of them, but I wasn't surprised by anything I saw on the list. I did like "How to Lose a Guy" and thought it was cute. I thought "The Break Up" started out well but was overall very disappointing. I liked what I've seen of "Must Love Dogs". Not a big JLo fan...she is, in my opinion, a hard one to match with a leading man...hard to find the chemistry. Also not a huge Julia Roberts fan either (except for "Pretty Woman"). So the list, I think, was pretty accurate.

Out of the 24 movies I have seen about 10. However most are pretty forgettable. I love Sandra Bullock, so I like many of her romatic comedies but not all. For Romantic Comedies I lean toward the classic ones for instance "Love with the Proper Stranger" with Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen is warm and hilarious! I usually watch it when it is on the Classics channel but happened to stumbled upon a VHS copy in the original jacket at a thrift store about a year ago to my delight! Now I can watch it whenever I like! Another good one though not as old is "Crossing Delancey" with Amy Irving, I own a copy of that as well!

I LOVE Father Goose. It is one of my favorite movies. Of the other movies, I enjoyed the Bachelor, and How to Lose a Guy. I'm not a Hugh Grant fan. Alex and Emma was okay, but not a favorite by any means. Of the others I've seen I probably agree they are not top notch movies. Thanks for sharing the link.
