It's no secret that I am a huge fan of The Closer. I love the characters, especially Brenda Leigh Johnson, played by Kyra Sedgwick. I love that we got to meet a heroine who married a real hero-type of man and who has a solid, loving marriage. I love the humor. The summer season will end this coming Monday, and I'm hoping there will be some closer to the current story line (the lawsuit) so that waiting until the end of November won't be so hard.
Here's a bit of related news for other fans:
The hugely popular TNT series, The Closer, will return with a new episode on November 28.
The Kyra Sedgwick procedural, in the middle of its seventh and final season, will push out five more episodes in its fall/winter run, and wrap up with six episodes in summer 2012.
The information on six episodes next summer came as a delightful surprise to me. Knowing this was the final season, I thought it would officially end in December. So now I don't have to mourn the end of this show until next July or August. Yea!
A spin off starring Mary McDonnell as Captain Sharon Raydor has been picked up by TNT. The title is Major Crimes. I wasn't very keen on the idea when I first heard it. But this summer season has slowly changed my mind. I'm liking her more and more. She isn't the baddie she was made out to be. Now I'm eager to know what they are going to do with her. What job is she going to have by the end of The Closer? I'm sure it won't be Brenda Leigh's position (no one can close a case the way Brenda can), although the title of the show does imply that it could be. Hmm.
Are you a fan of The Closer? What do you hope will happen in the final twelve episodes?

Oh, Robin, you are welcome at our house anytime, fellow Closer addict. We were also saddened by the news that The Closer would end, delighted that more episodes are coming, and confused by talk of the next series. I think they've done a pretty good job of "rehabilitating" Capt. Rader this season, and I love the ensemble cast they've assembled, so maybe the new one will fly.
Like so many things in life, I guess I have to just have to wait and see what happens.

Oh, no! I hadn't heard it was ending! I l-o-v-e that show! Brenda Leigh is a great character. I love her chocolate/candy comfort! Thanks for this, Robin, um, I think!

Yes, apparently it was Kyra who felt it was time to end it. I'm so sad to see it go.

I opened my mailbox yesterday and your book was there. Thanks for sending me FIT TO BE TIED. I can't wait to read it. Also thanks for the all the extras you sent especially the kind signing of the book.
I really like Kyra in The Closer. I will be sad to see the show end. I had not heard about the spin off Major Crimes. Will have to watch for it. Can't wait for the fall season to bring back my line up of shows I look forward to. I Have not watched much television all summer.
Blessings,
Patricia aka Mamaw

I love The Closer. Lt Provenza is my favorite.. perhaps because he reminds me of me a bit. :)

LOL, Bob. I love Provenza, too. Actually, I love ever single member of Brenda's squad.

We love The Closer and have been sad that it is ending this season. But I'm surprised (pleasantly) to learn that there will be episodes next summer. Also surprised to hear of the spinoff. We had not heard about that. Like you, I have mixed feelings about Captain Raydor. I love the actress...loved her in Battlestar, but her character has rubbed me much the wrong way. LOL... I do hope that Flynn and Provenza will be in the new show. In fact, I'm pretty fond of all of the characters.

Jeff, if Captain Raydor returns with the entire Major Crimes squad, I just might find myself loving the showing. I like Gabriel and I like Sanchez (his little smirk of amusement earlier this season when Brenda Leigh asks Flynn and Provenza if they thought it was a good idea to do something without a search warrant just cracked me up; and a season or two ago when he got shot saving Provenza's life!!) and Tao (such a geek!). Yeah, I am not ready to let them go.
So what did you think of the summer season finale?
Posted by: Robin Lee Hatcher | Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 01:17 PM
Just watched it tonight. We DVR everything and watch it on different nights. Except for, you know, American Idol and stuff like that. :-) Anyway. I liked it until the end. (Wasn't that annoying lawyer in "Moonlighting??") But it gave us something to look forward to, huh? I think my favorite part was when Captain Raydor was watching her speech to the other cop about following the rules. "You think she's aware of what she's saying?" That was funny!

Sounds like we felt about the same. I don't think I'm keen on another lawsuit. Funny thing is, I remember all of those cases the sleazy lawyer brought up, and I had to kind of think, "Gee, Brenda Leigh, you do sort of have a string of these, don't you?" And yes, that line from Raydor was hysterical. Loved the look on Fritzy's face when she said it to him. I'm thinking at the end of the series that Brenda is going to retire. Who knows? Maybe she'll discover she's pregnant.

Pregnant...now that would be just the best ending ever.

I had no idea this was the final season, although the tone of these last few episodes did give me a "we're gonna wrap this up shortly" feel. :-) I also had no idea last week's was the summer finale--although the cliffhanging aspect of it certainly fits a summer finale. (!)
I admit, I'm a Closer addict, too. Is there a support group for this? Or are we it? (heh heh)
(sigh)

Janny, I may need a support group when this is actually off the air for good. For now I'm clinging to the knowledge that it isn't gone yet. My main hope is that it will end well. And ever since I suggested it might be funny if it ended with Brenda being pregnant, I've been growing more and more fond of that idea for the exit. Could be a good twist after she suffered for so many episodes with early onset menopause.
